Abby, hello and welcome to Substack! Love that you are writing here and hope that you’ll consider doing a [b]old woman Q&A with me! Meantime, here’s the podcast interview with you, a lovely episode: https://debbieweil.com/blog/podcasts/s5-ep15-abigail-thomas-on-life-at-81-liquid-moments-memory-french-toast-and-writing/

I’m glad you sat back down - I need more of your delightful writing!

I read Safekeeping in one sitting yesterday. What a memoir. I laughed, I cried, then I laughed and cried more this morning, remembering it and flicking back through its pages. So glad to have found you.

Now, now. That was lovely. Why do we say now now? You said it your self: There are so many nows, it is always now. Now, now, is an admonition to return to this now as it is, instead of working ourselves up, and our experience of this inebriated now, to be something else. As it is, just now, you are four sheets to the wind. Now is a good time to sit down again.

I did sit down. And promised myself not to do this again. And haven't.

Three sheets to the wind! Oh my, that takes me back. My dad was an alcoholic but never called as such. I was however, very familiar with him being "three sheets to the wind!" One of those not really secret, secrets. Sometimes during those three sheets moments, he told some of his best stories.
