I love your Chuck stories. Who wouldn’t want a friendship where the catch phrase is “I’ll do anything you say” I like to imagine he is saving you a cozy little spot at the slush pile table of the great beyond. Selfishly though can we keep you and your stories on this side of the veil for as long as possible? I’m sure Chuck won’t mind waiting.
I'll do my best. So glad you liked it and Chuck, too. Thank you very much. I have a cardinal in my yard these days. A friend told me a cardinal is a visit from the dead. I sit on my porch waiting for it., and stay until it flies off.
Chuck was a lovely man. I enjoyed seeing him at Bookfest, and was so sad when you lost your best friend. I know you miss him. And, he was EXTREMELY handsome. xoxo
I just reread What Comes Next and How to Like it for the billionth time. You wrote the hell out of that book, Abby. The connection you 2 had was once in a lifetime I think. I have one of those friendships. We’ve fucked up and fixed it so many times, and I love every fracture of us. I still have him and can’t bear the thought of him not being here— almost as much as I can’t bear the thought of you without Chuck. Sending a bear hug xo
You made Chuck real to me in your writing. I enjoyed this fleeting glimpse of your friendship before complication set in. Writing is a form of love, I think. I came to love Chuck. I miss him with you.
I love Chuck. What a story you two have had together!Thank you for sharing your extraordinary friendship. I'm so sorry for your loss. Sending love. So much love.
Thinking of how his name could be short for "Chuckle " as you both made me laugh on this hard day. Thank you for sharing your friend with us - stories help us heal the cracks that miss our loved ones. 💔
I, too, have enjoyed reading about Chuck and it came as a shock to learn that he is gone. I am so sorry. How lovely to think there was someone doing the slush job once. Everyone's dreams got an airing, a consideration.
Slush was a great job, I loved it. No more, though. If you don't have an agent, or some close connection, it's hard to get read. Stupid, I think. But it's all about money nowadays.
