I can identify with the clock as a reflection of life … and identify with the sense of aging, being 81 myself. I’m grateful to be alive, even with various ailments. I appreciate your wonderful writing, which makes my own life better. Thank you.
Oh thank you! Edith is my favorite character! She just arrived, fully formed, I knew her so well. Thank you. And Safekeeping, yes, thank you very much.
Perfect reflection. Nothing needed. This reminds me of a song but I already forgot it.
Thank you Abigail for an early morning smile. Do you remember the sugar coated donuts and warm apple cider on strangers porches when neighborhoods were safe to roam as anyone you wanted to be? The slow conversations, getting to know each other behind the mask.
I wish I could say yes, but Halloween was never my favorite and I can't for the life of me understand how I ever got to know anybody when I was young. I know I did, but how?Behind the mask ,now that rings true.
Wouldn’t that be wonderful. I never lived in a proper Halloween celebrating country, I live in Switzerland, and they seem to have imported it commercially in the 80s, although some of my American friends used to go trickle treating as we thought it was called when we first heard the expression! There are small communities where it is still safe (ish! ) for children to do this, but when my kids were small I think we went once and always accompanied by mamas. Nowadays I’m
Guessing that few kids get to do this in most parts of America, right ? I enjoyed this piece soooo much! Time does tick tick by so fast. Sounds like a great clock ❤️
Woodstock, where I live, shuts down tonightl no parking, no cars (or very few going very slowly) and all of Woodstock shows up in town wearing costi=umes of one kind or another, and they get treats from all the stores ,which stay oopen. It's the only Halloween I've ever liked. But I bet there are other parts of the country with MAGA assholes it might not be all fun. Thank you, I loved everything you said..
Mine is not exactly round, but it ain't what it used to be, so I don't have to think about that shit anymore walking down a street. Round like a clock sounds lovely.
Sometimes I suspect it folds in on itself--kind of like dough being kneaded. Or maybe that's not such a good metaphor. It's more like sometimes I see it like stardust--in that way that we talk about everything here being made up of the same bits of matter because of the cyclical nature of things. Sometimes I think time is like stardust.
I've awakened around 3 am and haven't been able to get back to deep sleep for the past three days, so this morning I was really knocked out. I've been reclining on the couch listening to "sleep" music, but it's not that effective, so I was Ms. Grumpy Pants. I decided to check my email and I saw your post. I can't stop giggling and my mood has improved considerably. Thanks, Abigail. You 'da bomb!

How very nice of you to say. Thank you very much.
And I should add to my previous comment, that everyone should read Herb’s Pajamas and Safekeeping … among other of your wonderful books.

I haven’t read Herb’s Pajamas. Thanks for the rec.
Me neither (Herb's Pajamas). At least not yet.
My own face tells time.... Brilliant!
Thank you. So glad you liked that.
“Maybe I will go as a clock. No costume needed.” These sentences! The whole piece is like this — amazing sentences.
Thank you. I really thought about it but it would have meant a lot of walkiing. But thank you very much for liking it. Fun to write.
Or running (as a clock does 😊). I picture arms windmilling to point to hours.
But in all seriousness, the image of the human face as a living clock is beautiful. And extraordinary.
Oh! That's right! A clock RUNS. Damn, thta's great!

Yes the how still confounds me
🧐

I was there. I love the town on this night. It's so Woodstock, showing up in all its glory and yes, love.
Me too. Nothing but goodwill and happiiness.
I love this @Francesca Bossert — trickle treating. Thx for the chuckle
I love what you did here. From it I learn there are prompts and associations everywhere.
Thank you. Yes, everywhere ,just waiting for us to notice.
listening to time, wherever it goes, and yes, and yes, where does it go?
AND WHERE DOES "NOW" GO WHEN IT'S ALWAYS "NOW?"
I love "my own face tells time." Mine, too!
Tick-tock!
THANK YOU. And yes, tick-tock!
I used to have a figure like an hourglass, but now I'm modern. My shape is round, like a clock.
Mine is not exactly round, but it ain't what it used to be, so I don't have to think about that shit anymore walking down a street. Round like a clock sounds lovely.
Love this! I’m hoping “falling back” takes a few minutes off my 79-year old clock face.
Well, hmm. I don't think it will do a thing to mine. But invisiible is a super power, don't forget.
As it turns out, that two hours hasn't done a damn thing to stall time on this face. But Tuesday is the day they will see us coming a mile away.
I voted early, but maybe should just show up with my invisible weapon ad my superpower of invisibility.
Yes!
Listening to time wherever it goes! This made me smile.
Thank you, I'm so glad it did.
ThanK you. Where does it go?

I have to metabolize this because I love the way you think.
And I you.
crtwiosl. That's gopher, it means thank you.
Brilliant!
Just love this. Thank you. You make my day.
Thank you. I love knowing that.
An ageless clock that looks like a windmill and has faded roman numerals sounds like my kind of clock. Happy halloween! No costume needed.
Thank you. No costume wanted either.

That's high praise, thank you. I hope you are sleeping better.
Off and on. Thanks for your reply.
I do love ticking clocks. Something from childhood, I think. Thanks for this post! Just fresh and from the heart.
Thank you very much. So nice to read that.
that was magical- the analogy of your face as a clock...wow, I get that.
I look back at pictures and don't recognize my own self. Welcome to Substack, glad I stumbled upon you....Write ON! Di
Thank you!
