Yesterday
Written 100 years ago but I had to put something up
YESTERDAY
Yesterday I ate 3 pieces of cheesecake, 1 cannoli , 1 can of sardines and drank 3 pellagrino blood orange sodas. That's it. The extent of my accomplishments. Oh wait. I smoked a whole pack of cigarettes. Depression is boring and fattening. Fifty years ago I wrote a poem that began “Yesterday I ate 16 oranges”, followed by something else I’d eaten and how much I’d consumed of whatever it was. My sister was keeping a naked Norwegian in her bathtub at the time, and he was in the poem too. I forget the circumstances. All day I have eaten 0 anything because the dogs got it first. Only the cellophane was left, licked clean.

Only the cellophane was left, licked clean.
Jesus, Abby. Your last lines are gold. Every time.
Plain cheesecake? I miss NY cheesecake desperately.
You are giving me permission to write and be ok with it not being lengthy. Your stories move in and sit with me. I see all the pictures and objects in them like I’m right there. I am delighted to have found you. Thanks to Roman Newell for sharing!
